They are no good to our church for any PA-related purposes, as too bulky & heavy for their low power rating - labelled as for max 20W amplifiers ("40W USA "!) - also forums say that for best bass response they need large ported enclosures (or as a compromise smaller sealed enclosures). Having done a quick Google they seem be highly regarded - and surprisingly large amounts (100's dollars) paid for a single drive. They have been sitting there in nice conditions for many years. I wondered whether you have any "vintage gear" contacts that might be able to tell me where and how to offer them to someone who'd like to buy and love these?

I have a pair of Goodmans Axiom 301 12" dual-cone drivers from church, in extremely good condition. Many thanks for looking - find more below! I wonder if wise folks can suggest where is best?īTW, he is a PA volunteer, serving charities in the WMidlands (Coventry).Īlso runs the website - a veritable mine of resources for all kinds of PA endeavours. I'm going to leave them in for a few days to give them an extended listen, but as things stand I can see the Doublets being reinstated in faily short order.Folks, A good friend of mine would welcome advice about selling a pair of original GOODMANS 301's. I prefer the bass presentation from the transmission set-up - it seems tighter, weightier and more tuneful to me, but this may well be due to the peculiarities of my room, and not being able to get them near enough to a rear wall. The main differences are a 6.5 inch driver in the Abbotts v the standard 5 inch in the Apex's, and front firing reflex ports v transmission line in the Apex.

To my ears they sound similar to my pair of Apex's (the cabinets are identical externally), which is surprising as the retail, according to the Royd website, was £665 in 1995, compared to the apex at £485. So a non-starter on that one anyway.įirst impressions of the Abbots was a little underwhelming sadly. Went and picked up the Abbots and the seller had suddenly become very precious about the Axioms, saying he'd been looking them up on the bay and realised they could be worth a fair bit.
